Final Fantasy Exercise Challenge

Week 003

Friday, December 9th to Thursday, December 15th
Starting Weight : 220.8 lbs
Game : Final Fantasy IV
Starting Total TPKs: 0

I’m starting to get disheartened by the lack of progress towards my goal. I recognize that day-to-day weight fluctuations are normal, but I am beginning this week at the exact same weight I started at despite eating less and exercising more.

I have been attempting to keep an exercise/diet regimen that is sustainable, but I think I need to increase the intensity or the lack of progress will make it hard for me to motivate myself to continue.

In other news, I purchased two new pieces of exercise equipment : an exercise bike and a treadmill that isn’t on its last legs. The treadmill displays its speed digitally, which is nice (the old one just had a knob to turn speed up or down, and no display.

Week 002

Friday, December 2nd to Thursday, December 8th
Starting Weight : 220.6 lbs
Game : Final Fantasy I & Final Fantasy IV
Starting Total TPKs: 0

We’ll, I’ve stuck with this for a week so far. They say that you need to stick with something for 2 – 3 weeks to form a habit, but I am well on my way. I injured my foot on the treadmill somehow but I’m continuing to exercise.

I’m still have trouble keeping my brain engaged. So far my favorite in-game activity is to try to contrive reasons that the various monsters are working together and for the local boss. For example, the Ogres by Elfland are the backbone of Astos’s Legion of Evil™, and they keep the creeps, wolves, and grey wolves in line. It’s like I’m twelve years old again and inventing stories for my action figures while I played with them.

I am more than 2/3 of the way through FFI so far, and I expect to start FFII/IV this week. No TPKs yet, and no one has been slain except once in the Ice Cave.

Week 001
Weight 220.8

Friday, November 25th to Thursday, December 1st
Starting Weight : 220.8 lbs
Game : Final Fantasy I
Starting Total TPKs: 0

Well, this is the start of the challenge! Today is the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday). I have high hopes, but anything related to exercising is easier said than done.

I’m beginning with the game that got me started on RPGs in the first place – the old 8 bit Final Fantasy I. I’ve beaten this game several times and still really enjoy it. It will be a good way to ease into the challenge, I hope.

My party is composed of 3 fighters and 1 white mage. I named one of the characters after myself; the other three are named after people in my life who have been very successful with weight loss and exercise (my fiancee, my mother, and my good friend Jacob).
