We’ll, I’ve stuck with this for a week so far. They say that you need to stick with something for 2 – 3 weeks to form a habit, but I am well on my way. I injured my foot on the treadmill somehow but I’m continuing to exercise.

I’m still have trouble keeping my brain engaged. So far my favorite in-game activity is to try to contrive reasons that the various monsters are working together and for the local boss. For example, the Ogres by Elfland are the backbone of Astos’s Legion of Evil™, and they keep the creeps, wolves, and grey wolves in line. It’s like I’m twelve years old again and inventing stories for my action figures while I played with them.

I am more than 2/3 of the way through FFI so far, and I expect to start FFII/IV this week. No TPKs yet, and no one has been slain except once in the Ice Cave.

Friday:
…Starting Weight: 220.6
…Time : 1.50 hrs
…TPKs : 0

Description:
Got the CUBE from the robot behind the waterfall. Entered the Water Shrine and got the treasures on the 4th and 5th floors. This took about an hour. Then I took a break, and played a game on my Kindle Fire instead of Final Fantasy for the last half hour because (I wasn’t sure if I could beat Kraken before my fiancee needed to go to bed).

Saturday:
…Starting Weight: 220.6
…Time : 3.0 hrs
…TPKs : 1

Description:
Played in four 30 minute increments followed by a one hour increment instead of one solid exercise session. Beat Kraken and Tiamat and made it to Chaos, but I was defeated. Oh, I was so disappointed. I had made it all the way through the game with hardly so much as a character death, and then BOOM. Looking back, I’m honestly not sure what I should have done differently. I guess it was just the roll of the dice. I’ll try again tomorrow. Although I exercised a lot today, I also ate more than average so it will hopefully balance out.

Sunday:
…Starting Weight: ???? (I weighed myself, but forgot to record it. I think it was about the same as yesterday)
…Time : 1.25 hrs
…TPKs : 0

Description:
Spent the entire time grinding at the Eyes in the Ice Cave. Hit level 29.

Monday:
…Starting Weight: 218.6
…Time : 1.25 hrs
…TPKs : 0

Description:
Camped at the Ice Cave and grinded until I hit level 30. Also bought the WALL spell, then attempted the final dungeon. MUCH, much easier this time. Being level 30 instead of level 25 helps a lot. The major changes in the battle against Chaos:
….1. Gave Masamune to a Fighter instead of to the White Wizard.
….2. White Wizard cast WALL on the Fighter without the ribbon on the first round of combat, and …….then used the Heal Staff every turn.
….3. The fighters scored many more critical hits. Chaos died on the third round of combat.
I felt myself get really tired around the one hour mark, and the treadmill was not holding up so well. Walking was just as hard as jogging, so I ran in place during the battles with Tiamat and Chaos. Also, I turned off the treadmill to watch the end sequence after beating the final boss. I think that this is reasonable (I’m not actually playing the game during the end sequence, and it’s a nice treat to look forward to).

Notes: FFI
Starting Weight : 220.8 lbs
Ending Weight: TBD
Total Time: 17.5 hours over 11 days
Total TPKs: 1

Tuesday:
…Starting Weight: 217.4
…Time : 1.25 hrs [Game Timer = 1:15]
…TPKs : 0

I had a rough start to this workout. First, I broke the HDMI cable and one of the two HDMI slots on my television while rotating the TV to face the treadmill. I went to Best Buy and purchased a new HDMI cable. When I got home, I discovered that Final Fantasy Origins (which has Final Fantasy II) is not on the PlayStation Network, and that the disk version has glitches on the PS3 that make it unplayable. I already knew that III is not available except on Nintendo DS and iOS, so I skipped to FF II/IV. I usually try to avoid cursing, but by this point I was ready to explore fun and innovative new combinations of profanity. Then I discovered that FF II / IV is only available on the PSN for the PSP, which I do not own. I reluctantly downloaded FF IV and the FF IV – The After Years onto the Wii (the complete version of The After Years is only available on PSP). I did not actually start exercising until 9:20pm or so.

Once I finally started the game, it was a lot of fun. I loved FF II / IV but I don’t remember the details as well as FF I, so there is a lot more to explore and discover. Since I’m trying for roughly zero TPKs, I spent today grinding for an extra level or two and for money to stock up on potions. I also began casting people from my real life into the roles of the characters (like I did with FF I) and making up stories for the monster groups around the starting town (Baron). I wish Nammingway was able to rename people before they join your party. Also, the in-game time recorded feature was helpful with keeping track of my exercise time. Note to Self : I need to find out if the timer resets if I get TPKed or not. I suspect that it probably does.

Wednesday:
…Starting Weight: 217.6
…Time : 1.25 hrs [Game Timer = 2:31]
…TPKs : 0

Description:
Leveled up in the desert until my Caller was level 10 or so. Then I went to the cave and got the Sage, and returned to the village to rename him (BUT FORGOT TO DO SO…arg).

Thursday:
…Starting Weight: 217.8
…Time : 1.25 hrs [Game Timer = ]
…TPKs : 0

Description:
Walked all the way through the cave until I realized I forgot to rename the Sage. I was sad. Got the the point that the Bard joins the party and the Sage leaves.

Friday:
…Starting Weight: 220.8
…Time : 0 hrs [Game Timer = ]
…TPKs : 0

Description:
A pot luck at work and eating out a restaurant with my friends resulted in gaining 3 lbs in one day. Ouch. I’m back to where I started.
